Tortuga rum cakes

Yum. Don’t the words “Tortuga” and “rum” conjure up images of Pirates of the Caribbean? Tortuga rum cakes are just the thing to get you in that Caribbean mood! They are known for being the #1 export of the Cayman Islands and a favorite Caribbean souvenir. For four years in a row, they’ve been named the “Best Cruise Souvenir” by Porthole Cruise magazine. Well, that’s nice, but I haven’t been on any cruises lately (or ever!), so just how would they hold up to the scrutiny of the infamous Grill Team?

Just fine, thank you very much.

They are amazing! And we only sampled one of the varieties, leaving us begging for more. Rich and buttery - don’t even try to pretend that these will fit into your “diet”- the cake is absolutely delectable. They are vacuum sealed, so they have a shelf life of nine months or indefinitely if frozen, but I can’t even begin to imagine one of them lasting long enough to make it to the freezer in my house!

You can sign up for Tortuga emails to get special offers and also enter a sweepstakes to win a trip to the Cayman Islands at their website. You’ll also find food and drink recipes on the site (using Tortuga rum, of course), which is now available in the US.
