Do you have kids who love to cook, or think they might like to give it a try? Here’s a new concept that some claim is providing more family time by helping the kids to fall in love with meal preparation! Rachel, pictured above, is one of the Jr Chefs, whose favorite kitchen gadget is a meat pounder!
The revolution has begun as kids are moving their parents out of the kitchen to prepare delicious and healthier meals themselves with the new web based series, “Jr. Chefs of America”. The first kids cooking program created for kids, hosted by real kids who LOVE to cook is teaching parents and kids how to create fresh home cooked meals as an alternative to the fast food nation that is largely responsible for childhood obesity.
More information on Jr Chefs of America, including the TV show schedule and kid-tested recipes, can be found at their website. Below is a sample recipe from the website, called Crazy Queso:
CRAZY QUESO
GET OUT YOUR TOOLS:
o Measuring cups and spoons
o Cutting board
o Sharp knife
o Table spoon
o Medium frying pan (or griddle)
o Pot holders
o Metal spatula
INGREDIENTS:
o 1 avocado
o 4 flour tortillas
o 1 cup shredded Jack cheese
o 1 cup shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
o 2 tablespoons butter
o Option of fresh Salsa from Thomasʼ webisode
HOW TO:
1. Grate all the cheese.
2. Cut 2 tablespoons butter into 4 pieces and set aside.
3. Slice your avocado in half carefully along the middle, and then slice
the inner halves into four pieces.
4. Move your ingredients over to the stove since youʼll be assembling
the Crazy Quesos there.
5. Turn stove on to medium, and put 1 piece of butter and coat bottom
of the pan.
6. Place tortilla in pan and sprinkle half with grated cheeses.
7. Flip the bare side onto the cheesy side and gently press down.
8. Flip it when cheese is melted and underside is lightly brown, and
turn stove to low heat.
9. Cut how you like and serve with the avocado from earlier or the salsa
from Thomasʼ last webisode.
