Once-a-Month Cooking
by Mimi Wilson & Mary Beth Lagerborg

These two ladies have come up with a wonderfully simple system to take you step-by-step through the OAMC process. My major problem with their specific way of doing OAMC is that many of their recipes are not actually cooked and frozen…so it ends up being more like once-a-month preparation. I prefer to prepare and cook meals that only need to be reheated, so that I can have dinner on the table in 30 minutes or less. With these recipes, many need to be cooked closer to an hour, because they weren’t cooked before they were frozen.

Still, just because this isn’t my preferred method doesn’t mean that some of you won’t like it a lot! One advantage is that you can prepare more meals faster than you can cook them. Each night, you’ll just pull out the meal you want for tomorrow and let it thaw overnight in the fridge. Then when the time comes, you toss it in the oven to cook. So if time isn’t as much of an issue as just not having to fuss around with daily preparations, you may prefer this method.

The reviews for the book say that there are a lot of errors in the shopping lists given, so if you’re going to give this a try, I’d advise checking the recipes you choose against the shopping list carefully.
